OVI
October 30, 2025 – At approximately 8:49 pm, I was advised by dispatch that the Darke County Sherriff’s Office needed assistance to handle a separate call on the scene of a crash at the intersection of St. Rt 49 and US Rt. 127. Prior to arrival, I was advised by dispatch that the Greenville Rescue had an individual who appeared to be intoxicated.
Upon my arrival, I was advised by Nick Colby, a volunteer firefighter who was working on the scene of the crash. Nick Colby is also a full-time Patrol Officer with the Greenville Police Department, who is currently off duty. I also spoke with Lieutenant (Lt). Fletcher, a lieutenant with the Greenville Rescue who was also working the scene. Both Officer N. Colby and Lt. Fletcher stated the suspect, later identified as Derrick Taylor, was operating a white Jeep Compass bearing Ohio registration KNV5653 Southbound on St. Rt. 49 at a high rate of speed. Officers N. Colby and Lt. Fletcher advised that they believed Derrick was going to hit them as they both had to jump out of the way.
It should be noted that Officer N. Colby and Lt. Fletcher had reflective material on and flashlights on, directing traffic; there was also a Greenville rescue car that had flashing yellow lights on, blocking the intersection. Derrick came to a complete stop approximately 15 feet from the Greenville Rescue vehicle. Lt. Fletcher and Officer N. Colby then approached the vehicle. Lt. Fletcher advised that Derrick had a heavily slurred speech and possibly had been drinking. Lt. Fletcher also advised that he took Derrick’s keys so he could not leave the scene.
While speaking to Derrick, I could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person and he had heavy slurred speech. I also observed Derrick’s eyes to be watery and slightly bloodshot, consistent with being impaired. I asked Derrick if he had anything to drink tonight, which he initially stated something I couldn’t fully hear due to traffic and his heavy, slurred speech.
I then asked, “So you haven’t had anything to drink tonight?” Derrick replied with “Yes, I have.”
I asked Derrick what he was drinking tonight, and he advised he had a couple of beers and a couple of shots.
I told Derrick I would like to make sure he was okay to drive, and he advised that he did not wish to do any field sobriety tests (SFSTs). At this time, given the circumstances above, I told Derrick he was now going to be placed under arrest for suspicion of an OVI. Derrick was placed into two sets of handcuffs that were double-locked and gap-checked.
Derrick was read his Miranda Warning, where he stated he understood. Derrick stated he did not see any of the lights, indicating he needed to stop. Derrick was placed in the backseat of my cruiser and while I took photos of his vehicle and waited for Officer Ward to arrive on scene. Shortly after, Officer Ward arrived on scene, and the BMV2255 form was read to Derrick in the presence of Officer Ward, where he stated he didn’t understand.
Officer Ward then stayed with the vehicle, where I transported Derrick to the Greenville Police station to give him a chance to provide a breath sample on the Intoxilyzer 8000. Derrick provided a breath sample, which resulted in a BAC of .210 (Breath Alcohol Concentration of 20 hundredths of one gram of alcohol by weight per 210 liters of his breath), nearly triple the legal limit.
Derrick was issued a citation for OVI (4511. 19( A) ( 1) ( a) ) an Ml offense and OVI high test (4511. 19(A) ( 1) ( h) an M1 offense. Derrick has had one prior OVI conviction in 2011. Derrick was placed under an ALS suspension, and his Ohio driver’s license was seized.
SEARCH WARRANT
October 28, 2025 – At approximately 1:02 pm, Greenville Dispatch advised Vivian Williams was on the phone wanting to report a subject who was in possession of a firearm and was a convicted felon.
I spoke with Vivian over the phone, who advised her friend of 20 years, Bryan Gilbert, had purchased and possessed a firearm. Vivian advised that she knew Bryan was a convicted felon and a registered tier 2 sex offender.
Bryan informed Vivian that he had purchased a handgun at a gun show in Fort Recovery sometime between September 2025 and the first week of October 2025. Bryan also told Vivian he knew he was not allowed to have a gun, but he’s no longer on parole and the police couldn’t come into his apartment.
Vivian stated that Bryan lives in the apartments on South Ohio Street in Greenville and could not remember the address. I asked Vivian if she had any further details, to which she stated she did not at this time but would call Bryan to get more information.
On October 29th, 2025, at approximately 9:30 am, I made contact again with Vivian over the phone, to which she advised that she had contacted Bryan. Bryan informed Vivian that he had purchased the firearm from a private sale at Progressive Sportsman’s Club Trader’s Days. Bryan informed Vivian that he had purchased a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun to which he keeps in his apartment bedroom under his desk. Bryan denied sending Vivian a photo of the firearm, advising her that he did not feel comfortable doing that.

I looked up Progressive Sportsman’s Facebook, learning that Traders Days were held between October 2nd, 2025, and October 5th, 2025. A CCH was run on Bryan Gilbert, discovering Bryan was convicted of having weapons under disability F3 on August 23, 2019, and gross sexual imposition F3 on August 23rd, 2019.
After an investigation into the complaint, on October 29th, 2025, a search warrant was prepared and presented to Judge Fliehman of the Darke County Common Pleas, who signed the warrant authorizing the search.
On October 29th, 2025, at approximately 3:38 pm, Officers from the Greenville Police Department executed the search warrant at Bryan’s residence, 302 South Ohio Street, apartment #5. Contact was made with Bryan at his residence and Bryan was asked to step outside. Bryan was detained in handcuffs, which were gap-checked and double-locked.
Bryan was read his Miranda Rights, which he stated he understood. Bryan was questioned about the firearm in which he denied having any firearms inside of the residence. Upon searching the residence inside the master bedroom closet, Det. Hawes located a black pouch that contained a black Ruger EC9s along with a magazine in the inside left pocket of a gray coat. The right inside pocket of the coat contained a box of Remington 9mm ammunition, which contained 43 9mm rounds.
The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the Darke County Jail on charges of having a weapon while under disability.
Photos were taken before and after the search was executed. Photos were also taken of the evidence that was taken.
WARRANT
October 25, 2025 – At approximately 10:29 pm, I was leaving a previous call in the area of E. Water St. and Ash St. and observed a subject riding a bike on the road without any lights and recognized the subject as Jeff White, who has an active arrest warrant.
I activated my overhead emergency lights and observed that Jeff kept riding and sped up to get away from me. I turned my cruiser around to follow Jeff, and he went behind Fort Greenville, so I drove to the intersection of E. Water St. and Walnut St. and turned towards the alleyway where I saw Jeff still riding his bike. I followed him down the alleyway and he stopped in the backyard of 130 E. Water St.
I made contact with Jeff and informed him that he had a warrant, and he stated that he already knew about it. I placed Jeff in handcuffs, which were gap-checked and double-locked. Jeff was searched incident to arrest, and no contraband was found.
Jeff was transported to the Darke County Jail, where he was incarcerated. I checked my cruiser before and after transport and no contraband was found.
