DOMESTIC
May 6, 2026 – At approximately 2049 hours, I was dispatched to 311 Euclid Ave in the City of Greenville in reference to a verbal argument between Daniel Horne and Hannah Grisez who are no longer in a romantic relationship.
Upon officer’s arrival P. O. Daugherty and SGT. Wofle made contact with Hannah Grisez. Hannah advised that she invited Daniel Horne, her ex-boyfriend, over to her apartment till 8 PM. At approximately 8 PM Hannah advised Daniel she was tired and she wanted him to leave. Daniel stated “No” and got angry with her. Daniel grabbed his belongings and left. Hannah noted that at this point in the night Daniel had been drinking and was intoxicated. As Daniel left the apartment and Hannah shut the door Daniel turned around and started kicking the door several times and then he left. Hannah advised officers at that time she did not want anything done regarding the door and just wanted him trespassed from her apartment.
SGT. Wolfe and I were searching the area to make contact with Daniel when another call came in from 311 Euclid. The caller advised that Daniel had come back to the apartment and started making threats and walked away again. SGT. Wolfe and I located Daniel at the intersection of Central Ave and Pearl St. We warned Daniel for trespass from 309 and 311 Euclid Ave and sent him on his way.
Shortly after speaking with Daniel, SGT Wolfe received a phone call from Stacy Trissel, Hannah’s father, and advised they wanted to speak with an officer regarding charges. I went back to 311 Euclid and made contact with them.
Hannah advised that when Daniel kicked the door, he caused damage to the door, breaking the dead bolt and the doorknob loose which had not been noticed before. This also caused a crack down the narrow part of the door. I photographed the damage to the door please see the photo log for further. Hannah also sent me the video of Daniel kicking the door, which is also attached to this report. In the video, ss Daniel was kicking the door Hannah screamed and told Daniel to leave and not come back. Daniel left and that is when officers arrived the first time.
Hannah advised Shortly after officers left the scene her parents, Dara Trissel and Stacy Trissel arrived. The neighbors at 309 Euclid were also standing outside with Hannah. While they were standing outside Daniel came back and stated “I’m going to beat your ass” to Hannah, Dara, and her neighbor Bretten Robert. Stacy then walked outside and towards Daniel. Daniel then walked away. After Daniel walked away and around the corner is when I first made contact with Daniel to warn him for trespass. Hannah filled out a statement and victim’s rights form.
I then made contact with Dara. She advised that she arrived at Hannah’s apartment after Daniel had left the first time. She spoke with officers and was advised we were going to locate Daniel. Stacy was inside fixing the door Daniel had kicked earlier. Daniel then showed back up and started walking up the steps towards the front door. Dara started to call 911 and Daniel started calling Hannah names. Daniel stated and pointed to each person “I’m going to beat your ass”. Stacy then opened the door and stepped outside. Stacy told Daniel to leave and then Daniel left. Dara filled out a statement and victim’s rights form.
I then spoke with the neighbor at 309 Euclid, Bretten Robert. He advised that he did not want to be a victim but would fill out a statement. Bretten advised that he does not live at 309 but his girlfriend does. His girlfriend advised that she wanted Daniel trespassed from her apartment as well. Bretten advised that he was downstairs in his basement when he heard a repetitive loud banging coming from outside. He also heard a lady scream, “Somebody help me”. Bretten came outside and saw Daniel screaming from the sidewalk. Bretten told Daniel to stop screaming before he woke his daughter up. Daniel told Bretten to shut up before he “beat his ass” and repeatedly stated, “Come on bitch I’ll fuck you up”. Bretten told Daniel I won’t fight you and would call the police. Bretten started to call 911 and Daniel left. Officers arrived on scene the first time and then left to locate Daniel. Approximately 5-10 minutes later, Daniel came back. Daniel started yelling at Hannah and Dara. Bretten noticed Daniel was back and stepped outside. Daniel threatened Hannah and Dara stating, “I’ll fuck you up”. Then Stacy stepped outside and then Daniel left.
On May 9th, 2026, I made contact with Daniel over the phone and he was advised of his charges and citations. Daniel advised that he is in the Dayton area and would contact a lawyer and get back with me.
OVI
May 12, 2026 – At approximately 1353 hours, I was dispatched to 1425 Kitchen Aid Way in the City of Greenville reference a littering and OVI complaint.
A witness, Mendy Beam, advised that a Greenville Transit Service (GTS) bus driver had tossed a small glass bottle out the driver side window right before the main entrance on Sweitzer Street. Mendy advised that she walked to the street and picked up the glass bottle and observed that it was a Tito’s Vodka bottle. Mendy contacted GTS as well as the Greenville Police Department.
An employee of GTS and witness, Tiffany Web, advised that “right before 2PM I received a call from Wayne Hospital about a GTS bus driver in bus #52 pulled into the parking lot at Wayne and threw something out of the window” Tiffany stated that she arrived at Wayne and observed Zach in GTS BUS #52 which is his normal bus in a parking spot. Tiffany did not interact with Zach but went into the hospital and spoke with Mendy who gave Tiffany the bottle that had been tossed out of the window of GTS Bus #52. Mindy states that she returned to the GTS office and provided the empty Tito’s Bottle to Chief Benge who had arrived on scene.
Upon my arrival at 1425 Kitchen Aid Way, I observed a White Ford Bus which had GTS decals and the number #52 on it, parked in the front parking lot but no driver in it. I went inside and was informed that Zach was in an office speaking with Katherine McCabe. I spoke with Zach regarding the situation and asked if he knew why I had been called. Zach advised that he thought it was because someone thought he was driving drunk and did advise that he stopped at McMiller’s Carry Out store located at 601 Martin St. Greenville OH earlier in the day. Additionally, I asked if bus #52 is the bus that Zach drove today to which he replied yes. At this time Lt. Monnin and Chief Benge entered the office and informed Zach that he was not under arrest and read Zach his Miranda Rights, which Zach indicated he understood. I then asked Zach what he had purchased from McMiller’s. Zach advised that he had purchased soda, water, and only one small bottle of alcohol. commonly referred to as a shooter. Zach produced from the left front pocket of his jeans, a small bottle of alcohol determined to be a 99 Brand bottle. Zach advised at this time that he had only purchased 1 bottle. Chief Benge produced the bottle of Tito’s Vodka that had been recovered form Wayne’s parking lot and asked Zach where it came from which her replied he was not sure. Lt. Monnin asked Zach if he had purchased the shown bottle of Tito’s to which he replied yes. When asked a second time how many shooters Zach had purchased he replied “Just the one”. Zach clarified that he had purchased one Tito’s bottle and one 99 Brand bottle. Zach was asked what time that he came to work today and was unsure of what time he had arrived looking to another employee for verification that he arrived at 10:00 AM. Lt. Monnin then asked if he had purchased and consumed the Tito’s bottle while working and driving to which Zach replied yes.
I then had Zach exit the building to the parking lot to conduct a Standardized Filed Sobriety Test. I asked Zach if he would consent to the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, to which he replied yes. Zach was asked if he was currently on any medication or had any recent head injuries. He advised that he was on medication but that they would not cause any impairment and that he did not have any recent head injuries. While speaking with Zach outside, I could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him.
I had Zach stand in a fixed position to perform the HGN (Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus). While conducting the test, I observed a total of 6 clues. Two for lack of smooth pursuit, two clues for distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and two clues for nystagmus prior to 45 degrees.
Next, I had Zach perform the walk and turn, where I had Zach stand in the starting position while I explained the instructions. Zach lost his balance while turning and stopped to steady himself. For a total of two clues.
Finally, I had Zach conduct the one-leg stand and instructed him to stand in the starting position while I explained the instructions. Zach indicated that he understood the instructions and began the test. During the test I did not observe any clues.
At this point I believed that Zach was impaired and placed him under arrest for OVI. I placed Zach in handcuffs which were gap checked and double locked. Zach was searched incident to arrest and located no additional bottles of alcohol or contraband and placed into the back of my cruiser.
Zach was transported to the Greenville Police Department and was read and shown the BMV2255 form in the presence of Officer A. Hall where he stated he understood. Zach was given the chance to provide a breath sample on the Intoxilyzer 8000 where he voluntarily gave a breath sample. The breath sample from Zach resulted in Zach having a BAC of .165 (Breath Alcohol Concentration of 16 hundredths of one gram of alcohol by weight per 210 Liters of his breath). Zach was given his copy of the BMV2255 as well as a copy of his test results. Zach was placed under an ALS and his Ohio drivers license was seized.
Zach was charged with 3767. 32(A), Littering, a misdemeanor of the 3rd degree, 4511. 19(A) (1) (a) OVI a misdemeanor of the 1st degree, and 4511. 19(A) (1) (d) a misdemeanor of the 1st degree.
Zach was given his copy of these citations, advised of his mandatory court date and time and released to his wife, Lindsey Baughman.
THEFT
May 8, 2026 – At approximately 1448 hours, I responded to 136 Vine Street in reference to a theft not in progress.
Upon my arrival, I made contact with the complainant/victim, Tamara Swartz. Tamara advised Kerry Foshee, an ex-boyfriend, to send her a picture of a Tri Village coat in his possession. Tamara stated she recognized the coat as one she owned that was in her garage. Tamara advised that she went to her garage and noticed her coat was missing at that time. Tamara stated the coat was worth approximately $100.00. I did not notice any signs of forced entry to any entrance to the garage. Tamara stated Kerry has not lived with her at this residence for approximately 3 years and has not stopped by the residence in approximately 3 weeks. I made contact with Kerry at 627 East Fourth Street.
Kerry advised he sent Tamara a picture of her coat to let her know he had it, so she could retrieve it from him. I asked Kerry if he still had her coat, to which he stated he did, and retrieved it from inside his residence. Kerry stated Tamara let him borrow the coat so he could walk from her residence back to his. Kerry was unable to provide any proof of Tamara allowing him to borrow it. While speaking with Kerry, P. O Conway continued speaking with Tamara. Tamara advised
she never gave Kerry permission to wear her coat at any time.
Kerry was issued a citation for theft and was advised of his court date and time. Tamara’s coat was returned to her.
WARRANT
May 13, 2026 – At approximately 1935 hours, I was on routine patrol when I observed a subject walking westbound on East Main Street at the intersection of East Main Street and Walnut Street in the city of Greenville. I recognized the subject to be James Hankins Jr. who I had prior knowledge had an active warrant for his arrest through the Preble County Sheriff’s Office for a Trespassing charge.
I rolled my window down and asked the subject what his name was, which he advised was Jim. Believing this was James Hankins Jr., I pulled my police cruiser over and exited to speak with him. I asked the subject what his last name was, which he advised that it was Cozad. I asked the subject for his social security number and he asked why he had to give it, which I advised him he looked like someone I know. The subject advised he was not from around here and again advised his last name is Cozad. I again asked the subject for his social security which he asked if there was a reason why, which I told him I believed he was someone who has a warrant. All of a sudden, this subject advised he was having trouble breathing and needed an ambulance. I advised GPD Dispatch to have Greenville Rescue respond to treat this subject.
I asked the subject what his date of birth was, which he advised was 04/02/1974, which just so happened to be the same date of birth as James Hankins Jr.. I advised the subject that he was James Hankins Jr. and to stop lying to me, which he finally admitted was his name.
James was detained in handcuffs, which were double-locked and gap-checked.
Once the Greenville rescue arrived on scene, they transported James to Wayne Healthcare to be treated.
James was treated and released by hospital staff and I transported him to the Darke County-Preble County line, where he was released to Preble County deputies.
Due to James delaying my duties by lying to me about who he was, I issued James a citation for Obstructing Official Business, a misdemeanor of the 2nd degree and advised him of his mandatory court date.
The backseat of my police cruiser was checked prior to and after transport.
