VIOLENT THREAT
January 11, 2025 – At approximately 12:53 pm, I was dispatched to 207 West Main Street in the City of Greenville in reference to a subject making threats with a firearm.
While en route, GPD Dispatch advised that the complainant, Brandon Miller, was advising that James Lanham was outside of the residence of 207 West Main Street threatening him and his girlfriend, Elexia Olson, and sending videos of a firearm. They advised he had left the area driving a red Chevy Cruze with a white bumper.
Once I arrived in the area, I observed a vehicle matching the description bearing Ohio registration KIA7141, traveling southbound on Elm Street from West Main Street. I turned around and got behind the vehicle. Once the vehicle turned northbound onto Sycamore Street from West Fourth Street, it pulled into a private parking lot. I activated my overhead emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop reference for the investigation into the threats.
Once the vehicle had stopped, I ordered the driver, later identified as James M. Lanham, out of the vehicle which he complied and walked back to my police cruiser and detained in handcuffs which were double locked and gap checked. I advised James of his Miranda Rights and advised him of why he was being stopped. James denied making any threats or speaking to anyone and stated that he and his friend, the passenger, Caidyin Addis, were coming from Maid Rites. I conducted a Terry Pat down for weapons and no weapons were found. I asked James if there were any weapons in the vehicle which he stated “Not that I know of” and that it was his father’s vehicle. I asked James if I could search the vehicle to look for the firearm which he advised that I could not. James was placed in the backseat of my police cruiser for the remainder of the investigation.
Once P. O. N. Colby arrived on the scene, he ordered Caidyin out of the vehicle which he complied, and was detained in handcuffs which were double locked and gap checked.
Caidyin was advised of his Miranda Rights and I asked him where the firearm was. Caidyin denied knowing anything about a firearm and advised that he had not been paying attention and was playing on his phone. Caidyin advised that James had been talking to his ex-girlfriend, Elexia Olson, on Snapchat but did not know what the conversation was about and again denied knowing anything about a gun or seeing a gun.
When I went back to James and asked him about speaking with his Elexia, he admitted that he was talking to her on Snapchat but denied making any threats and that the messages were deleted now because it was on Snapchat.
P.O. Nibert and Sgt. Prickett went to 207 West Main Street to speak with Brandon Miller and Elexia Olson. While there, they were shown screenshot messages from Snapchat from “AKA Puffer” who they advised was James’ Snapchat account. The messages had been sent to Brandon. In the messages, James tells Brandon to come out… “Got that 9 for u” (street slang for a firearm), “Nigga we outside”, “u abt get your ass beat”, “Or imma come in”. The messages were later emailed to my work email and will be filed with this report. Please see the screenshots for best reference. Brandon advised that James had also sent a video to him which showed a black handgun in his waistband. Brandon advised that due to the video being on Snapchat, he was unable to view it again.
Both Brandon and Elexia advised James’ messages and the video made them fear for their safety. Both Brandon and Elexia filled out witness statements and victims rights forms which will be filed with this report.
When James and Caidyin got out of the listed vehicle, they had left the front doors open. I walked up to view the inside of the vehicle to see if there was a firearm in plain view. While standing next to the vehicle, I could smell the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle.
Due to the odor of burnt marijuana and the statements made by Brandon of the video of James with the firearm, P. O. Coby and I conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. While P. O. Colby was searching the glove box, he located the listed Taurus G2C 9 mm. I unloaded the firearm and found that it contained 11 rounds of ammunition in the magazine with 1 round in the chamber. The firearm’s serial number was run through LEADS/NCIC which did not come back stolen.
I went back to P. O. Colby’s cruiser where Caidyin was sitting in the backseat. I advised Caidyin that we had found the gun and asked him to be honest with us. Caidyin advised that he did not see James make a video or what he said in the messages but admitted that during the incident, James handed him the gun and he put it in the glove box. We asked Caidyin if he would be willing to fill out a written statement which he advised that he would. Caidyin’s statement will be filed with this report. He was later released to his mother, Jessica Addis.
Contact was made with James D. Lanham and he was advised of the incident. He
later arrived on the scene and the vehicle was released to him.
Due to James M. Lanham being 19 years of age, it makes it illegal for him to carry a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle.
James was transported to the Darke County Jail where he was incarcerated on charges of Improper Handling in a Motor Vehicle (felony of the fourth degree) and Aggravated Menacing (misdemeanor of the first degree).
WARRANT
January 10, 2025 – At approximately 1524 hours, I observed the listed GMC Jimmy bearing Ohio Registration EAM8354 being operated eastbound on Martin Street near Walnut Street. I observed the passenger to be Kyle Reigelsperger. I ran Kyle through LEADS/NCIC and found he had an active felony warrant for his arrest through the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for Drug Possession.
I conducted a traffic stop and made contact with Kyle and the driver, Connie Acker. Kyle was advised of his warrant and taken into custody without incident and placed in handcuffs which were double locked and gap checked.
Kyle’s warrant was confirmed and he was transported to the Darke County Jail where he was incarcerated for his warrant.
The backseat of my police cruiser 1944 was checked prior to and after transport and no contraband was located.
