Greenville man pleads guilty in teen rape case

GREENVILLE – Brandon S. Smathers (23) of Greenville recently pled guilty to several felony counts involving sexual crimes against two teenage females.

Smathers was indicted in December 2023 and January 2024 on a total of 15 felony counts. According to the indictments, Smathers was charged with one count of Rape (F1), one count of Attempted Rape (F2), eight counts of Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor (F3), four counts of Sexual Battery (F3) and one count of Felonious Assault (F2). The offenses all occurred between December 2021 and May 2022. The victims were 13 and 14 years of age at the time.

Smathers entered a guilty plea to Rape, Felonious Assault and Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor. The other 12 charges were dropped, as part of a plea agreement. He is scheduled for sentencing in the Darke County Common Pleas Court on Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. He faces a maximum of 24 years behind bars, with an additional 9.5 years possible under the Reagan Tokes Law. He is currently incarcerated on a $300,000 bond.
