SIDNEY – The Greenville Lady Wave seniors earned their 100th career varsity win with a five-inning run-rule win over the Sidney Lady Yellow Jackets 12-0 in MVL varsity softball action.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Nice road win and senior’s 100th win. They move to 100-17 in their storied four-year careers with many more great things ahead in the next month.”
LWSB seniors include Zoey Burns, Kylar Arnett, and Morgan Thompson.
Greenville opened play with a leadoff double off the bat of Kylar Arnett, followed by a Sidney error putting Zoey Burns on first and Arnett on second. Lizzie Shaffer followed with a single, a Kendall run-scoring groundout, a Leah Force RBI single to left, and a Lily Brubaker RBI groundout, giving the Lady Wave an early 4-0 lead.
Greenville plated five second-inning runs with a Kara Blumentstock leadoff double to left, an RBI single to right off the bat of Zoey Burns, an Ella Oswalt hit-by-pitch, and a Shaffer single to center loading the bases. Cromwell sent a run home getting hit by a pitch, Force hit a two-run single to right, and Brubaker knocked an RBI single to center with the Lady Wave taking a 9-0 lead after two innings of play.
The third inning had Greenville plating two runs by way of a Blumenstock leadoff single to left, C Shuttleworth reaching with a hit by pitch, and a Morgan Thompson infield single. Rylie Pfledderer hit an RBI single, and an error plated a run for an 11-0 lead after three.
Walks to Force and Bri Klosterman set up the Lady Wave’s final run of the Jaelyn Christman sacrifice fly to right, giving Greenville a shutout road win.
“Passed the bat and hit it square,” Newland said. “Ella Oswalt and Lizzie Shaffer combined for the shutout.”
Oswalt picked up the win, pitching three scoreless innings, two hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. Shaffer went the final two innings of no-hit ball, no walks, and three strikeouts.
Leah Force went 2-2 at the plate with 2 walks, 3 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Blumenstock was 2-2 including a double, 2 runs; Shaffer 2-3, 2 runs; Arnett 1-3, a double, 1 run; Pfledderer 1-1, 1 RBI; Thompson 1-1; Burns 1-2, 1 RBI, 1 run; Brubaker 1-3, 2 RBI; Oswalt 1 RBI; Caleigh Stebbins 1-1; Cromwell 2 RBI.
“Excited for Thursday; Butler is here for a big game,” Newland concluded.
With the win, Greenville goes to 19-1 overall on the season and 15-0 in conference play.
