GREENVILLE – The Greenville Senior High School art program held its first Chalk the Walk at GHS, sponsored by the school’s Art Club.
Eighty-eight students in grades nine through 12 took part in the day-long art event on the sidewalk in front of the High School building under the guidance of GHS HS art teachers Nicole Hawk and Julie Brewer.
“A day to collaborate and work together to put some art out and show a little attention for our art program and what these guys can do in a fun way,” said Hawk. “It has been great. This is our first time doing this, and we hope to continue it and let it expand in the future.”
Much planning and preparation went into the day’s art event, bringing thanks from Nicole Hawk.
“Thanks to my partner Julie Brewer, our other art teacher, Megan Roessner our yearbook advisor, Stan Hughes our Principal who helped us coordinate this whole thing,” Hawk said, “and all the students for putting so much heart into what they are doing and caring about putting on a good display.”
The art collection may be viewed, weather permitting, until future rains wash the chalk art away.
“It’s a fleeting experience,” Hawk noted. “The experience, not the product.”
