TIPP CITY – The Lady Wave traveled to Tipp City and brought home an 8-3 win over Tippecanoe, earning a sweep of the Lady Red Devils in MVL play.

“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Got the road win and sweep over a very good top team.”

The teams played a scoreless first inning with Greenville’s Ella Oswalt accounting for the lone opening inning hit, a single to left.

The Lady Wave grabbed a first-inning 1-0 lead with a Lily Brubaker single to right, a groundout, and a pickoff at first had the bases empty with two down. Kendall Cromwell knocked a single to center and came around to score the game’s first run on a double to left off the bat of Rielynn Davidson.

Kylar Arnett led off the top of the third with a double to left and scored on an RBI Zoey Burns single to right, giving Greenville a 2-0 advantage. Tipp battled back to score two runs with two outs in the bottom of the inning to knot the score at 2-2 after three complete.

Greenville regained the lead in the top of the fourth, taking advantage of a two-out Davidson single to right and a run-scoring line drive single to right off the bat of Arnett for a 3-2 Lady Wave lead.

A Lady Red Devils’ error produced a run in the top of the fifth, and a Tipp run in the bottom of the fifth sent the teams to the sixth with Greenville clinging to a slim 4-3 lead.

Davidson led off the top of the sixth with her second double of the night, Tipp mishandled a Morgan Thompson bunt, putting runners on first and third, followed by an Arnett run-scoring sacrifice fly. Burns collected an RBI single to center, and Lizzie Shaffer knocked a run-scoring single to center, giving the Lady Wave a 7-3 lead.

“We have started to attack the ball and get some action going at the plate,” Coach Newland stated.

Shaffer set Tipp down in order in the bottom of the sixth, bringing Greenville to the plate in the top of the seventh to add an insurance run by way of a Leah Force single and a Tipp error, scoring Force for a final MVL score of 8-3.

“Kids dug through some challenges and adversity and got the win at Tipp,” said Newland.

Ella Oswalt pitched the opening three innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. Shaffer picked up the win in relief, tossing the final four innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits, no walks, while striking out six.

“Ella went first three, and Lizzie the last four,” Newland noted. “Zoey and Davidson three hits each.”

Davidson paced the Lady Wave at the plate, going 3-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored. Burns also went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and a run.

Arnett went 2-3 including a double, 2 RBIs and a run; Cromwell was 2-3; Shaffer 1-3, a walk, one RBI; Oswalt 1-2; Thompson 1-4; Force 1-4, one run; Brubaker 1-4; Oswalt; Bri Klosterman two runs; Kara Blumenstock one run.

“Big clutch hits and some nice plays today,” said Newland. “Tough to get road wins.”

With the sweep, Greenville improves to 11-1 (8-0) and will host the Miami East Lady Vikings Saturday, April 19th at Lady Wave Stadium with a 10 a.m. start time and Lakewood High School with a 2 p.m. start time.
