GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave defeated the visiting Fairborn Lady Skyhawks in straight sets in Wednesday night MVL volleyball action following a 25-14, 22-25, 25-14 and 26-24 earlier season 3-1 win over Fairborn.

“We had a few hiccups along the way but we still won in three,” said Greenville coach, Michelle Hardesty. “These girls are so much fun to coach, they have great attitudes, they are very competitive, they want to have this great season and when they get down or get behind they’re staying patient and finishing – that’s all we can ask.”

The Lady Wave jumped out to a 16-0 lead behind the serving of Shyanne Gibboney and coasted to a 25-13 first-set win to lead 1-0.
“I don’t know if we have ever seen 16-0 – none of ours have done that,” Hardesty noted. “The second half of that game we got outscored 9-13 so it was nice to have that cushion. Shy did a heck of a job serving tonight.”

Set No. 2 had Greenville starting slow trailing 1-4 before battling back to knot the score at 7-7 and 8-8 and go on a 4-0 run to lead 12-8. Fairborn kept pace with the Lady Wave with scores of 16-16, 22-22, 23-23, 24-24, and 25-25 with Greenville closing out the set on a 2-0 run to win 27-25 and move-out to a 2-0 lead on the night.

“Fairborn was competitive with us when we went to visit them,” Coach Hardesty said. “They have good blocking that was challenging our hitters a little bit tonight but we prevailed.”
The Lady Wave got back on track grabbing an early 8-2 third-set lead and finishing the night with a 25-13 point win to sweep the night 3-0 in winning the WOAC contest.

“Shyanne stepped up early and really passed the ball well tonight, was really strong early, led the way early, and got us off to a great start,” said assistant coach Jim Hardesty. “I think we are on track and are where we want to be. This is the best position we have ever been in since we’ve been here and I think they will take care of themselves.”
With the win, the Lady Wave improved to 14-6 on the season and 12-4 in conference play increasing its opportunity for a good selection in Sunday’s tournament draw.”
“It will be interesting,” said Michelle Hardesty. “There are not a lot of teams that see us throughout the season in our bracket. I expect with our record going into it we ought to be one of the top seeds so we should get a nice choice of where we play and when.”

Competing in the Miami Valley League has prepared the Lady Wave for the upcoming OHSAA volleyball tournament run.
“We’ve been challenged,” said Coach Hardesty. “For the most part, the girls have stepped up to the challenge. In the MVL we’ve only been beaten by two teams (20-0 Tippecanoe and 16-3 Butler).
The Greenville JV squad won the early match by a 2-0 score.
