GREENVILLE — Greenville senior Kennedy Schoen helped the Lady Wave celebrate senior night with a 195-238 victory over Xenia at Turtle Creek Golf Course.
Schoen, Greenville’s only senior, shot a 51. Freshman Piper Jenkinson led the Lady Wave with a 39, while Lyla Brinley also shot 51 and Anna Cox added a 54 to complete the team score. Payton Fourman shot 55, and Ayla Weyant finished with a 57.
Greenville improved to 12-1 overall and 5-1 in Miami Valley League play.
Schoen joined the golf team as a freshman, her first year playing the sport. Four years later, she said the time had passed “way too fast.”
“It’s been a lot of fun, and a lot of the girls, we’ve just all grown really close, and they’re all my best friends,” Schoen said. She plans to attend college and is considering a career in early childhood education.
Greenville coach Tracy Haines praised Schoen’s improvement and the steady presence she brought to the team.
“She really worked hard over the wintertime to improve her game,” Haines said. “I am going to miss her because she’s a very calm influence.”
Haines hopes to introduce more younger students to golf. She said she and boys coach Brian Stickel plan to visit the middle school during physical education classes to teach students how to swing a club.
“We’ll have a day over there where we’re in phys ed class and we’re teaching them how to swing and hopefully get a couple out of that,” Haines said.
She also encouraged girls who have not played before to give the high school team a try.
“Come out when you are a freshman,” Haines said.
Leilana Minton led Xenia with a 56. Kennedy Cox shot 57, Erin Simmons 62, and Malania Stookey and Phoebe Hull each shot 63.
