GREENVILLE – The Greenville boys basketball program, under the direction of head coach Matt Hamilton, completed its 2025 Summer Youth League.

The camp had third and fourth graders and seventh and eighth graders taking to the courts from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and the fifth and sixth graders going from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon.
Coach Hamilton changed the way most summer youth league camps are held by having three consecutive days of camp. Hamilton replaced the consecutive-day camp with six one-day sessions over six weeks.
“We did it a little bit differently this year,” said Hamilton. “We did a six-week 3-on-3 skills league, including third graders through eighth grade.”

“Every week we do an hour and a half, and we did half of that time working on skill work, ball handling, shooting, passing, fundamentals, and the other half we do 3-on-3 competition,” continued Coach Hamilton. “We rotate different teams every week, trying to emphasise skills that we work on and put them into play in 3-on3.”
Coach Hamilton utilizes the 3-on-3 style to provide more opportunities for young players to be involved in the program.

“By doing 3-on-3 with the younger ages, if you play 5-on-5, we’re inevitably going to have two kids in the corner somewhere that never see the ball, so this way it keeps everybody involved. We can work on specific skills that we want to see, so it’s good to improve our overall skills.”

Hamilton thanked the many who helped make the camp a success.
“Thanks to coaches Pat and Liz McMahon, Amber Short, and the high school coaches behind the scenes, who helped me organize and plan some of this,” Coach Hamilton noted. “The administration is always helpful in communicating where we can be and always gets a gym for us.”
