FAIRBORN – Greenville defeated Fairborn 3-2 on the Skyhawks home field in Monday night Miami Valley League action.

“Defensively, we played well,” said Greenville coach Adam Eberwein. “We put the ball in play, only striking out once, which is a positive. Great team win.”

Greenville senior Cole Oswalt went the distance on the mound, allowing two earned runs over seven innings, three hits, and one walk while striking out three.

Both teams went down in order in the first inning, setting the tone for the low-scoring conference game.

The Green Wave got a one-out double to center off the bat of Isaac Kerg and came around to score on an Owen Mcgreevey two-out single to center, giving Greenville a 1-0 lead.

Fairborn took advantage of a two-out single and double to even the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning.

Jackson Eberwein knocked a fourth inning one-out single to left, and Kerg reached first by way of a hit batsman putting runners on first and second setting up a run scoring single of the bat of Michael Fox giving the Wave a 2-1 lead. Mcgreevey followed with an RBI single to left, giving Greenville a 3-1 advantage.

“I would like to see us improve our hitting when we have runners in scoring position,” Eberwein stated. “Good things will happen as long as we put the ball in play.”

Fairborn added a run in the bottom of the fifth to trail 3-2 for the night’s final score, giving the Green Wave a 1-run conference win.

Greenville sophomore Cole Oswalt went the distance on the mound, allowing two earned runs over seven innings, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out three.

“We played good defense behind Cole Oswalt. “As a staff, we preach to pitchers, nine vs. one rule, be efficient, and allow your defense to work. Cole threw an 85 pitch game.”

Mcgreevey paced the Wave, going 2-3 with 2 RBIs; Kerg was 2-2, including a double, a HBP, and a run scored. Fox went 1-2 with a walk, 1 RBI, and 1 run; J. Eberwein was 1-3, 1 run scored.
