GREENVILLE – The Green Wave varsity boys dropped a 1-4 non-conference tennis match to the visiting St. Marys Roughriders in Monday night competition.

“I’m extremely impressed with how much battle our young team has had early this season,” said Greenville first year head coach, Sam Bowers. “No one from last year is playing in the same slot for our squad, so gaining more experience every match and we only have one senior in our starting varsity lineup as well.”

Greenville’s winning match came at first singles with Mason Pierri battling from behind to win in three sets, 2-6, 6-2 and 6-2.

“Mason Pierri has been extremely impressive, especially winning from behind and going 3 sets playing first singles as a Sophmore,” said Coach Bowers. “Then, Will Gettinger & Simon Snyder battled from behind & lost in a close 3rd set showing great sportsmanship in a very competitive match.”

The Wave’s next home match is Tuesday, April 11 when the reigning MVL Champion Tippecanoe Red Devils come to town with a 4:30 p.m. start time.

“These early on non-conference matches against good competition will give us great experience we will need when we get into conference play,” Bowers noted.
