GREENVILLE – The Greenville High School Choirs presented ‘Christmas Is’ Tuesday night at St. Clair Memorial Hall before a large appreciative crowd.
“It’s always fun during the Holiday Concert because we get some alumni that come back,” said GHS Vocal Music Director Chelsea Whirledge. “They’re on break from college, so that is always nice to see them come back and support their peers they were in groups with and then see the community come together and support these kids, whether it’s parents, family, or just people who come out regularly.”

A wide variety of Christmas songs by the GHS Vocal Music Department, including Christmas Is, Santa Baby, My Favorite Things, Let It Snow, Santa Clause Is Coming to Town, Silent Night, and many more old and new favorites filled Memorial Hall.
Choral Ensembles included Collage, Choraliers, Concert Choirs, Wavaires, and solos and duets.

The vocal students have been working on the Christmas production for the past nine weeks and performed the night’s concert flawlessly, with no mistakes, no do-overs, no missed notes, or a single word missed throughout the night’s concert.
“They all know the expectation that everything will be memorized, and they won’t be using music, so they work hard to make sure that happens,” said Whirledge. “A lot of time, every day they’re practicing in class, they also work on their own, they get videos and part tracks, so they are grinding at home as well to get it done and put it together.”

“I have an excellent core group of seniors who are doing a great job leading the way in their sections. Tonight, we heard a lot of strong vocalists, and those spotlight acts were highlighted.
“We had Addie (Gathard) and Riley (McCartney), and you had Ashton (Inman) in there; those are three outstanding senior leaders,” Whirledge added. “Emily (McLear) and Olivia (Flatter) were hilarious with their Stretchy Pants, and on the guys’ end, we are really strong. Landon (Weaver) is really strong vocally, and so is Ethan (Beckley); Avery (Yount) is an all-around great performer as well. Kiara (Brown) stepping us in Collage was cool too, so lots of talent in that senior class.”
