GREENVILLE – Greenville junior Kaylin Bradburn has punched her ticket to the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Tournament after capturing a sectional championship and finishing district runner-up to advance to the state meet this Friday through Sunday at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus.
Bradburn, an honor student competing in the 120-pound weight class, earned the trip to Columbus in just her second year of high school wrestling, a testament to her work ethic and determination on the mat.
A multi-sport athlete at Greenville High School, Bradburn is also a key member of the Lady Wave soccer team, wearing No. 1 in goal the past three seasons, beginning as a freshman.
Greenville head wrestling coach David Guillozet is pleased with the progress and success his junior wrestler has achieved in a short time in the sport.
Former Greenville standout wrestler Marty McCabe, a member of the Class of 1977 who competed at 95 and 112 pounds, assists Guillozet with coaching the Lady Wave wrestlers, along with Greenville City Schools teacher Cindy Rose.
“Kaylin wants to learn,” said McCabe. “She wants to get as good as she can. She has high goals.”
McCabe, who serves as a volunteer assistant coach, said he enjoys being back on the mat after previously coaching with both the Versailles and Greenville wrestling programs.
“It’s a pleasure to coach again,” McCabe said. “I’m really happy to be a part of Greenville wrestling again.”
The Greenville girls wrestling program practices alongside the boys team and receives instruction from Guillozet and the entire coaching staff, including McCabe.
McCabe also attends the girls’ competitions, working directly with the Lady Wave wrestlers with assistance from Rose, who supports the team in a variety of roles.
“She’s there for the girls,” McCabe noted. “She’s there to support the girls, and it makes it nice to have a lady along for the girls. I do the coaching, and she takes the videos.”
Bradburn will now look to continue her impressive season as she competes among Ohio’s best at the state tournament in Columbus this weekend.
