PITSBURG – Franklin Monroe held its third Annual MVCTC, FFA Cruise-In at the school’s parking lot this past Sunday afternoon. The event hosted all types and models of cars, trucks, and tractors.
“Three years ago, we were trying to come up with some new ideas for things to do, and our chapter president at the time, Mason Lair, mentioned a tractor, car, truck cruise-in,” said Franklin Monroe FFA Advisor, Kevin Bergman. “Each year, it’s getting a little bit bigger.”
“We have a lot of community support,” Bergman added. “It’s neat to see the old farmers come back. They like to see the school, and it’s been a good community event.”
The event is not a fundraiser but a fun community event for the rural Darke County school.
“We don’t charge anybody to come in, we don’t do prizes,” noted Bergman. “It’s just a fun community event.”
The FFA Cruise-In allows the students to serve as part of their community service activities.
“The students consider it part of their community service, giving back to the community,” said Diane Voress, Middle/High School Principal. “We have a very involved FFA here at Franklin Monroe. Kevin Bergman does a wonderful job. We have a lot of students who are very active in the FFA program, and if you look around, we have a lot of students who come back even after they graduate.”
Ami Coomer, FM FFA Assistant AG Advisor shared, “we have tons of old graduated FFA students who are here. We have a former Ag teacher, George Skidmore here today, his family now goes here, his grandkids.”
Bergman thanked the many involved in making the day’s Cruise-Inn a large success.
“I would like to thank the school for allowing us to park tractors here today,” he said. “Our FFA officers do a wonderful job of promoting it, and the FFA Boosters are a big help.”
