GREENVILLE – Fort GreeneVille Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution recently accepted donations from Greenville American Legion Post 140 and the family of Gerald Subler (Vietnam) for the second phase of renovations to the Gold Star Mothers/Family monument.

The second phase is placing engraved pavers around the monument. It was originally inspired by former Greenville Mayor Steve Willman in 2023. Assisting Fort GreeneVille DAR is Kathy Bowen. She is a third generation of the Hoblit family that has overseen the care of the historical monument.

With the expertise of Lasting Legacy Memorials and Fitzwaters Outdoor Maintenance, pavers will be engraved with the names of those who passed away while serving in the military. At a later date, the opportunity for gold star families to have their names engraved on a larger paver will be available at a lesser cost.

The Gold Star Mothers/Family monument is located at the entrance of Greenville’s city park. The monument was erected in 1957 by the Darke County Chapter of the Gold Star Mothers. The history of the Darke County Chapter of the Gold Star Mothers and the monument can be seen at the Garst Museum in the military section.
