PREBLE COUNTY – Detectives with the Preble County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation in January of 2026 regarding an allegation of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student that occurred in 2014.
As a result of that investigation, the case was presented to the Preble County Grand Jury on July 6, 2026. The grand jury returned a multi-count secret indictment. The suspect in this case was located in Florida and arrested. She has been extradited back to Preble County.
Kristin M. Schamel, age 45, of Eaton, was indicted on 10 counts of Sexual Battery. Each count is a 3rd-degree felony. Schamel was employed at the Eaton Middle School, but no longer works for the district.
Schamel remains in the Preble County Jail pending her initial appearance in Preble County Common Pleas Court.
