PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe Lady Jets volleyball program held its three-day Junior Jet Volleyball Camp for girls entering the second through sixth grade under the direction of veteran Lady Jets volleyball coach Angie Filbrun.

The three-day camp numbered 28 young lady campers, mostly from the Franklin Monroe School.

Coach Filbrun and her assistant coaches and Lady Jet volleyball players were teaching basic skills.

“Just getting them in the gym to learn more about the game so they are excited because we want them to be excited in junior high,” said Filbrun. “If they don’t ever get a taste of it in elementary, then they don’t know what it’s like, so it’s fun for us to get them in the gym, teach those skills, and show them how much fun it is to play volleyball.”

They are the coaches this week,” Filbrun said of her volleyball players. “I will introduce things, and then they will take over. It’s fun to see them work with the younger girls and take that side and be leaders for the kids.”

When Coach Filbrun was asked if she could see herself in the high school girls coaching, she said, “Yes, I do – I do.”

“I have to chuckle and laugh on some of that stuff, but they are doing a great job of it,” Filbrun stated. “It’s fun to see them take that role and be confident. It teaches them not only to coach the game for the littles, but it also helps them on the court.”
