During the recognition of persons wishing to address the Franklin Monroe Board of Education several staff and community members addressed the board.

Andy McKibben was in attendance representing the Franklin Monroe Education Association. He expressed joint concerns of staff and community members regarding the new building. Some of these concerns included the cost of operation, virtual academy options, and lack of public and staff involvement.

“Franklin Monroe was always a place where people brought their kids because of the education that we provided them. We have lost sight of that and need to get back to what made this district once great,” expressed McKibben.

The board also heard from Volleyball Head Coach, Angie Filbrun following an incident that occurred between a parent and athlete that led to her suspension.

“It is with a heavy heart that I give you my resignation effective at the end of the season. I cannot continue to coach in a system that doesn’t support me.”

In response, President Scott Meyers expressed that there would be an executive session following the meeting to have a further discussion and invited Volleyball coaches to also discuss the situation with the board and athletic director.

Two other coaches also spoke on behalf of Coach Angie Filburn during the meeting in regard to her suspension and their disappointment at how the situation was handled by the Admin.
