PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe Jets boys basketball program competed its three day camp with more than 50 campers taking to the courts from the second grade through the eighth grade.

“We are just trying to create a culture of joy, a culture of competitive excellence and really trying to create a vision,” said Franklin Monroe coach, Troy Myers. “That’s what the high school helpers are here for, try to create a vision that these younger kids can aspire to, what it means to play here, what it means to be in this gym.”

“We are teaching them the skill circuit so they’re going anything from ball handling, shooting, rebounding, charge/superman, layups and defense and playing competitive games,” Myers added, “so they’re getting a smorgasbord of it.”

Helping Coach Myers with the 2023 boys camp included high school Jets basketball players and the Franklin Monroe boys basketball coaching staff.

“This is an opportunity for us to serve and that is something we believe in,” said Myers. “Instead of talking about it let’s just go do it, let our actions speak and that’s what they’re doing here.”

“It gives me no more joy than to see other people helping and the guys that were once in their position they’re giving back now,” he continued. “It brings us all a lot of joy.”

“Just the competitive excellent piece is what we’re trying to hit,” Myers concluded.
