VAN WERT – Western Ohio Motorsports presented its second Van Wert Flat Track Motorcycle Race of the season this past Saturday in preparation of the 2023 Tim Best Memorial Half Mile at the Great Darke County Fair set for August 25th with $10,000 in purse money.

“This is a real good example of what we are going to have at the fair,” said Greenville’s Len Nealeigh, “We’re expecting close to 200 riders during the Great Darke County Fair this year.”

Western Ohio Motorsports, LLC is located in Greenville led by Len Nealeigh, Director of Operations of the organization.

Flat track motorcycle racing has a long, rich history in the area, with events like the Old Time Newsies in the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. This will mark a gigantic milestone for the sport and its growing presence in the area and nationwide.

“With Darke County being one of the largest county fairs east of the Mississippi and with the attendance the riders really look forward to coming to Darke County,” Nealeigh stated. “With purse that we put out they really look forward to that plus we having a $5,000 Hooligan purse for the Hooligan Riders too. They will be coming from all over the country.”

Hooligan Riders was motorcycle racing in its purest and most simple form. In the 1970s Hooligan Racing resurged when flat-track racers would wheel their street bikes out on the track during intermissions and race each other just for the pure fun of it.”

“It’s going to be a good night and a good evening with a lot of fantastic racing,” said Nealeigh. “We hope that Mother Nature works with us and we’ll go from there.”
