DARKE COUNTY – In Late May, EverHeart Hospice gave an informational presentation and provided a meal at the Birchwood Senior Center. Speaking was Ethan Fee, with Cortney Yount and Amber Duncan. After answering questions and enjoying the catered luncheon, an optional tour of the inpatient unit was available.
On May 29th, Spittin’ Image performed at the Greenville City Park as part of the Darke County Senior Outreach program, bringing free entertainment to those aged 55+. The afternoon was filled with music, dancing, conversation, laughter, and free ice cream.
Recently on a more serious note, Sheriff Mark Whittaker gave a beneficial presentation entitled “Fraud Alert”. Whittaker offered strategies and measures to help detect and prevent fraudulent activities before they occur. Education and awareness of some of the common scams is the best way to curtail the abuse being perpetrated on society and especially targeted towards the senior demographic.
Coming, Thursday, June 26th, beginning at noon, is the organization’s first Summer Picnic Party. This event replaces the annual luncheon previously held at Romer’s Catering. Those attending are welcome to bring a lawn chair if so desired. There will be a free boxed lunch, gift basket raffles, indoor and outdoor games, and so much more for those who RSVP by June 19th.
Birchwood Senior Center is located at 8544 Jaysville St. Johns Road, Greenville offers comfortable and ample indoor and outdoor accommodations, so the picnic event will be held regardless of the weather. The boxed lunch includes potato salad, baked beans, and a cookie. There is a choice of sandwiches: chicken salad, ham & Swiss, or turkey & cheese. Refreshments include lemonade, iced tea and water. However, you must RSVP by June 19th to Wally at (508) 789-3884 or Mary at (937) 423-2565. Rain or shine, there will be lots of fun, food, and friends.
Then Friday, June 27th, there will be a Patriotic Dance from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. DJ Moose provides a variety of music to accommodate all dancing styles. The Swingin’ 8’s Square Dance Club will provide entertainment. Light refreshments will be served.
