Darke County Senior Prom to be held April 17

DARKE COUNTY – Individuals aged 55 and above are formally invited to attend the Darke County Senior Prom at Birchwood on Friday, April 17th, from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. You’re also part of the prom court—congratulations! Later in the evening, the King and Queen will be revealed—and you might be one of them!

You can dress up in formal black tie, cocktail attire, smart casual, or even comfortable American tourist style. The night promises plenty of fun and unforgettable moments. Come by yourself or bring friends; singles and couples are welcome as long as attendees are at least 55 years old. Enjoy light refreshments and music by our DJ, Karen Holsapple—also known as DJ Moose—is an experienced music professional. Her passion for music began early, and her career was launched in 1998 with borrowed equipment. Since then, she has performed at weddings, class reunions, private parties, and various other events. Karen offers a diverse repertoire spanning all genres and takes pleasure in accommodating personal requests.

The prom is complimentary. For planning purposes, we kindly request that you register at the Senior Center or contact Wally at (508) 789-3884 or Mary at (937) 423-2565 via text message. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m.

Effective Monday, April 6th, the Senior Citizens Walking Club will be walking outside, meeting at the parking lot by the arch of the Greenville Union Cemetery, 200 West St (SR 571) at 6:00 pm. If you are interested in joining or have any questions, please contact Wally at (508) 789-3884 and he will keep you informed.

Walking is a great way to get exercise and joining this group will allow you to enjoy the fellowship of other seniors. Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress, lower your blood pressure, balance the parasympathetic nervous system while walking increases your heart rate variability, which creates a healthier heart.

Outdoor walking also allows you to breathe in fresher air, which increases lung capacity, reduces inflammation, and can give one clarity. And outdoor walking can help burn more calories, improve mobility, balance, and coordination by navigating varied terrain.

Hope to see many of you at the upcoming events and don’t forget the Senior Spring Expo on April 10th from 11 am – 2 pm in the Community Building at the Fairgrounds. We will be offering sandwiches, salads, chips, and drinks. We are also excited to begin selling raffle tickets for 4 abundantly filled baskets of goodies donated by different groups. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. To learn more, please attend and show your support for the hardworking businesses who provide us with their support.
