Versailles 26 – Celina 0

The Versailles football team started their season with a shutout victory over Celina Friday night.  They scored three times in the first half to take a 20-0 lead at the break.

Michael Osborne scored on a two-yard run. The touchdown was set up by a 48-yard pass from Osborne to Lane Berman to the Bulldog four-yard line.

“Lane had a heck of a catch from Mike.” Coach Jones said and that really got us going.”  The extra point snap was bobbled, and the conversion failed.

The Tigers held Celina and Osborne returned a punt to the Bulldog 15-yard line. James Schmitmeyer scored on a one yard run to make it 13-0 after the extra point.

The Tigers scored as time expired in the half on a Jace Watren 36 yard catch to go up 20-0. “Huge catch by Jace Watren in the end zone to end the first half” Coach Jones said.  “When we needed a play, we were able to get a play.”

The Tigers scored on their opening possession of the second half marching 81 yards on 14 plays taking 8 minutes off the clock to complete the scoring in the non-conference win.

Versailles will play travel to take on Ft. Loramie this Friday.

Arcanum 27 – Covington 6

The Buccs struck first in the game go up 6-0 in the opening quarter … but the remainder of the game was all Arcanum who amassed 401 total yards with 346 coming on the ground.

The Trojans Dakota Kendig had a 14-yard run, Truman Kraus a 1-yard run and Tristan Keckler a 4-yard run all in the 2nd quarter to go up on Covington 20-6 at the break.

Kendig rushed for 195 yards on 17 carries including a 10-yard jaunt for the final score in the 4th quarter giving Arcanum a 27-6 win.

Arcanum will host Twin Valley South August 25th for their first WOAC contest of the year.

Ansonia 30 – Riverside 14

The Tigers used a powerful ball control run game to take down Riverside.  Ansonia had 294 total yards with 274 coming on the ground.

Riverside scored first in the opening quarter to go up 7-0 but Ansonia responded with two rushing TDs in the 2nd quarter to go up 16-7 at the break.

The Tigers added a score in the 3rd quarter and one in the 4th quarter for the 30-14 non-conference win.

Keegen Weiss has 34 rushing attempts for 246 yards and 3 TD’s including an 80-yard TD run.

Ansonia will travel to Covington this Friday.

Bradford 22 – Middletown Christian 0

The Railroaders went to Middletown and came away with a win to start 2023.

They scored on an Owen Canan 7-yard pass to Trey Schmelzer in the first quarter.  Tucker Miller ran one in from 5-yards in the second quarter to give Bradford a 15-0 lead at the half.

Griffin Trevino concluded the scoring in the game on a 36-yard run in the 4th quarter for the 22-0 Bradford win.

The Railroaders had 223 total yards rushing for 146 on the ground and passed for 77.  They will host Cincinnati Country Day this Friday to open up play on a new field.

Waynsfield Goshen 42 – Mississinawa Valley 0

The offense never really got on track for the Blackhawks who fell in their season opener.

Sophomore quarterback Kyle Wehrkamp was 5/14 passing for 50 yards.  Leland Kauffman had 3 receptions for 37 yards and Dylan Wehrkamp had 2 receptions for 13 yards.

The Blackhawks will travel to Dixie who won their season opener for a week 2 showdown.
