GREENVILLE – Emergency crews responded to a reported structure fire on the 400 block of West Third St. at approximately 4:21 pm on Friday afternoon.
Upon arrival, firefighters from the Greenville Fire Department reported heavy fire conditions on the front of the two-story house. GFD requested a second alarm for mutual aid to be dispatched to the scene. Additional units were called in from AMAR from GTES, Gettysburg, New Madison, Arcanum, Versailles, and Liberty TWP, along with Greenville TWP Rescue and the Greenville Police Department.
According to Greenville Fire Chief Russ Thompson, “The home was occupied, and at least two people escaped prior to our arrival; both were transported to Wayne HealthCare for medical reasons (not burns or smoke inhalation). The family’s dog did not survive. No firefighters were injured. Damage was significant (no estimate at this time).”
The cause of the fire is under investigation by GFD, GPD, and the State Fire Marshal.
