Commissioners talk ditch assessments, engineer’s report

GREENVILLE—The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday afternoon to discuss ditch assessments, Darke County EMA and the engineer’s report. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs and Larry Holmes were present.

The board set a fixing of date for a public hearing on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Critical Infrastructure Program.

The board intends to apply for the CDBG funds for a community development project in the Village of Gettysburg to replace the existing 100,000 gallon water tower.

The total amount of CDBG funds requested is $500,000. The Village of Gettysburg has committed to expend an estimated $700,000 in non-CDBG funds on the project.

The board will hold the second public hearing for the project on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023 at 2:30 pm in the board room of the Darke County Administration Building, at 520 S. Broadway Street, Greenville, Ohio.

Additionally, the board intends to apply for the CDBG funds for a community development project in the Village of Arcanum that will include street reconstruction of portions of East First Street, South East Street and South Albright Street.

The total amount of CDBG funds requested is $500,000. The Village of Arcanum has committed expend an estimated $367,705 in non-CDBG funds on the project.

The board will hold the second public hearing for the project on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023 at 3 pm in the board room of the Darke County Administration Building, at 520 S. Broadway Street, Greenville, Ohio.

Written comments for both hearings should be submitted to the Darke County Grants Office, S. 520 Broadway St., Greenville, Ohio 45331 no later Monday, Jan. 16, 2023.

Next, Darke County Engineer Jim Surber submitted the 45th annual engineer’s report for 2022.

Out of the 522.297 miles of asphalt road surfaces in the county, the county resurfaced 28.86 miles, chip-sealed 21.32 miles and marked 387.88 miles. The county additionally constructed two new bridges and rehabbed one bridge.

The county spent $6,982,996.02, a 1.2% decrease from 2021, and earned $7,140,496.94, a 3.7% decrease from 2021.
