The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday afternoon to discuss annexation within the Village of Arcanum and the Darke County Airport. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs and Larry Holmes were all present.
The board approved Resolution (R-1-2023), for a petition for annexation of 9.210 acres into the Village of Arcanum.
On Dec. 27, a petition was filed in the Office of the Board of Darke County Commissioners by Agent for the Petitioners Nicole L. Pohlman, requesting the Board to allow the acrege into Arcanum.
The Petition was signed by the sole owner of real estate, that being Shawn J. & Jenny M. Smith on Nov. 17.
They then approved a cash farm lease between the board and Wuebker Poultry, Inc. (Co. Airport).
The Lessee is expected to farm the County Airport Farm (38 acres of tillable ground in Richland Twp.) in a careful manner, with proper crop rotation.
Prior to the contract signing, the County will take soil samples. At the end of the contract, the lessee will pull samples with the necessary nutrients to bring the soil back to the beginning samples.
The Lessee must maintain all established conservation structures, native plantings, waterways and buffer strips.
Land rent is paid twice per year, with the first payment of $4,275, on March 15, and the second payment of the same amount on Dec. 15 of each year.
The terms of the lease are valid from Jan. 1, 2023 to Dec. 31, 2024.
After the meeting, Commissioner Combs thanked the community for their support on his first week in office.
“It’s the first of many sessions to come,” Combs said. “I appreciate everybody’s support and I’m just looking forward to the next four years. I’m glad to finally be here sitting at the table. It means a lot.”
