GREENVILLE – The Darke County Board of Commissioners met Thursday afternoon. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs, and Larry Holmes were all present.

Commissioners approved a Fund Advance for the Grant Department and the 2022 Building Demo Revital Grant. This covers the H&H contract for the asbestos removal at seven out of eight locations.

Earlier this week, Commissioners signed a Proclamation for Make Music Day on June 21, 2024. During the session, it was mentioned that ‘Make Music Day’ is taking place this Friday.

Commissioner Holmes discussed that Miami University Ohio Rural Plus for Ohio Initiative Program is a new program that is officially in Darke County. Some Miami University interns are currently in the area for the summer.

Jared Coppess came in with many updates for the Darke County Solid Waste.

Coppess reported numbers for the H2Ohio Program, a water quality plan that went statewide in April. The statewide goal was to have 500,000 acres enrolled using nutrient management practices, and the status currently is a little over 482,000 acres enrolled. Darke County currently has 8,380 acres enrolled and 18 producers.

Coppess also shared that the 2024 Conservation Day Camp hosted by Darke County Soil & Water at Chenoweth Trails was very successful, with a full camp of nearly 200 first through fourth grade and an additional almost 90 kids waiting. The two-day camp is packed full of activities, including fishing, archery, hiking, and multiple fun activities.
