GREENVILLE – The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday afternoon to discuss appropriations for 2024 and reflect on projects in 2023.

Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs, and Larry Holmes were present.

The board approved Resolution (R-429-2023). This resolution is the signing of 2024 appropriations presented by Darke County Auditor Carol Ginn. In the General Fund, 67 departments represent $37,653,251. In the Outside Fund, 109 funds represent $75,235,474.40. Total appropriations are $112,888,725.40 for 2024.

“The county has one debt left,” Ginn said. “This is for the South Industrial Park. This is a non-interest-bearing loan with the Ohio Water Development. This is a 20-year debt for $646,865 taken out in 2016. The balance as of 12/31/2023 is $404,290.70. The yearly payments are $32,343.24. The Ohio Water Development doesn’t allow for an early payoff of this loan.”

Also in the meeting, Commissioner Matt Aultman took a moment to go over significant projects done throughout this past year, including a jail door and security system upgrade, exterior courthouse restoration, Lady Justice’s repair and installation, the Airport, consolidation of county record storage, the land use plan, bringing county-wide internet to the point of the project becoming to the point of installation, supported a local investor in building a spec building within the county, poll books, CDBG projects, Brownfield projects and much more.

“It’s been an awfully busy year; next year is going to be a continuation of that,” Commissioner Larry Holmes said. “We are really focused on facilities this upcoming year.”

The commissioners are ready to have a productive 2024, with several projects already being set up.

The board wishes you a happy new year.
