DARKE COUNTY – The Darke County Board of Commissioners met Thursday afternoon.
Commissioners Matt Aultman, Aaron Flatter, and Marshall Combs were all present. Aaron Flatter.
Under Resolution (R-70-2025), the Examination and Allowance of Bills dated February 27, 2025, was read and approved. The General Fund was $32,909.76; outside general funds were $159,997.44, for a Grand Total of $192,907.20.
Commissioners approved a Fixing of Date for the Darke County Engineer. This is for a Notice to Bidders for the Resurfacing of Various Darke County and Township Roads and Pavement Marking of Various Darke County and Township Roads.
Sealed proposals will be received at the Darke County Commissioners’ office until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27th, 2025.
Commissioners approved an Amendment for Burkettsville & New Weston Sewer Sub-Districts – Wastewater Treatment Agreement w/ Village of St. Henry, OH.
“We usually treat different areas of our county for sewage,” said Commissioner Aultman. “This particular village of the south side 705 in Burkettsville & New Weston. After speaking with the mayors of those villages, they helped work out a deal for this increase to help pay for treatment cost.”
Sheriff Mark Whittaker was in attendance to discuss the approval of a Grant for Capital Improvement—local Jail Projects for the Darke County Sheriff’s Department.
“There’s quite a few state dollars set aside to give to county jails, whether its repairs in which we took advantage in that a couple years ago. It’s also there for jails and things needing rebuilt. We’re applying for this grant this year and we are asking for $200,000.”
Whittaker explained that if approved and awarded the grant. It will be used for a Feasibility Study / Assessment. The jail is 42 years old and it often gets costly to keep up and maintain the jail in its current state.
Commissioners also signed a Proclamation before the session Declaring March 2025 as “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.”
Many gathered and spoke on behalf of Darke DD and joined for a wonderful celebration.
