Commissioner Combs gives report on Trash Bash

DARKE COUNTY – The Darke County Commissioners met on May 15th, Matt Aultman, Aaron Flatter, and Marshall Combs were all present. The regular session began at 1:30 in the Administration Building. On the agenda was the regular session minutes from last Tuesday, which passed unanimously, then the examination and allowance of bills were presented.. The vouchers, including any “then and now” certificates in the amount of the General fund, were $78171.35; Outside General funds of $639,254.36, for a total of $717,425.81, unanimously approved for payment.

Transfers of Appropriations for the Commissioners and Auditor were next. The Commissioners moved $17.62 from the General fund to cover Sewer Maintenance Insurance until May 1, 2026, and then moved $2,436.00 from the Sewer fund (an outside fund) to pay allocated costs. The D.C. Auditor moved $14,782.20 from the other operating fund( an outside fund)  to cover rent/lease machinery/equipment.

A 2-step fund Transfer for the D.C. Engineer for the Osburn Sign upgrade bill for $23,998.60 was advanced, and step 2 was a fund transfer of $5,999.65 to cover the engineer’s portion of the Osburn bill. Both were approved.

A fund advance back of $471.63 for the D.C. Sheriff’s Dept. was approved next. The Auditor then declared as Junk a copier that they could no longer get toner for. Both passed unanimously.

Sealed bids for asbestos removal and demolition of vacant and blighted buildings throughout Darke County will be taken until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 12th, and read at 1:30. Bids will be received per property, and one bidder with the lowest and best will get the contract. There are 13 structures for asbestos removal, and 16 for demolition.

Two more transfers of appropriations for the Sheriff and D.C. Juvenile/Probate were approved by the Commissioners.  The Sheriff transferred $15,000.00 from machinery/equipment to training, from travel, lodging, meals, and registration, and D.C. Juvenile/Probate transferred $ 1,000.00 from vehicle maintenance to monitoring/surveillance.

A letter from State Auditor Keith Faber on a late fee policy was read and accepted next.

An expense request was approved for the Sheriff for $12,215.00 for Kelly Moody, Dan Stocklager, Greg Fourman, and Alan Yount to attend a recommended meeting for D.A.R.E. officers in Noblesville, Indiana, on June 15th -26th, 2025.

Commissioner Combs gave a report on Trash Bash, 6.5 tons of trash was removed, and 1.35 tons was removed for recycling. Thanks to all who participated.  And the D.E.A. Drug recovery program took in 75 pounds of prescription drugs from the citizens.

The meeting ended at 1:48. There is no meeting next Tuesday; next Thursday is the next scheduled meeting.
