PIQUA – The City of Piqua proudly announces the appointment of RJ Monnier as director of the Power System Department.
Monnier brings 17 years of experience in utility services leadership. He has served as The City of Piqua Utility Business Office manager since 2021. He previously served as district member service supervisor for Pioneer Electric Cooperative.
“I look forward to joining a world-class power system team and continuing the excellent level of reliability, service, and value Piqua’s residents have come to expect,” Monnier said. “Piqua’s Power System Department is recognized as a leader in public power, and I am grateful for this opportunity to build on that strong foundation in service to Piqua’s residents and businesses.”
Monnier is an active community leader, dedicating his time to various organizations including the Lehman Alumni Committee, Tecumseh Woods Board of Directors, Miami County YMCA Board of Directors, and Knights of Columbus, while also serving as co-chair for St. Boniface Oktoberfest, a committee member for the Piqua Catholic spring fundraiser Taste & See, and a volunteer youth coach.
Monnier holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton. He is a graduate of Lehman Catholic High School. He currently resides in Piqua with his wife, a teacher at Piqua City Schools, and their two young children.
“We are excited to promote RJ Monnier to the role of Power System director for the City of Piqua,” Human Resources Director Catherine Bogan said. “His track record of exceptional service with the City made him the ideal candidate to lead this department.”
As Power System director, Monnier will plan, direct, and supervise operational and maintenance work of the power-generating and distribution system. This work includes reviewing engineering design for system improvement; providing short-term and long-term plans for alterations/improvements to the system; ensuring regulatory compliance with environmental and safety laws and regulations; responding to emergencies; and making periodic inspections of buildings, machinery, grounds, and equipment.
“RJ has demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership as manager of the Utility Business Office,” City Manager Paul Oberdorfer said. “We are confident that his expertise and commitment will continue to positively impact our community as he takes on this vital leadership position.”
