GREENVILLE – The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Distinguished Citizen Medal recognizes worthy citizens for their extraordinary service in the defense, promotion, and/or preservation of our American heritage of freedom.
The DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal is presented to an individual who has demonstrated honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism and has contributed to the defense, security, or freedom of the community, state, or nation in an exceptional manner.
Fort GreeneVille Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution honored Chris and Krista Rehmert, a father and daughter, with the DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal.

Philip Chris Rehmert has shown extraordinary lifetime service in the defense, promotion, and preservation of our American heritage of freedom. He devoted 32 years of service to our Country and in retirement devotes himself to the Veterans of Darke County, Ohio.

Krista Rehmert has also shown extraordinary lifetime service in the defense, promotion, and preservation of our American heritage of freedom. She has devoted 17 years of service to our Country and is still currently serving as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Her career path is in mental health, which is a crucial part of the health of our armed forces.

“It is quite an honor,” said Chris Rehmert. “I was very surprised, and I am very proud of Krista.”
“I am very pleased and honored to learn about the father and daughter awardees for the distinguished citizen award,” said National Defense State Chair Cindy Kanwar (Ohio). “This award is very significant to DAR and the National Defense Committee, and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a father and daughter being awarded at the same time. Thanks go to the Greenville chapter for making this happen, and thank you to both father and daughter for serving our country. “
Krista is currently stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in the western Florida Panhandle and has been a member of the Fort GreeneVille Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, since 2006.

Patriotism runs deep in the Rehmert family, starting with the American Revolutionary War. Chris’s father and Krista’s grandfather, Philip, served in WWII. Mother and grandmother Marge Rehmert was a DAR member.
“The whole line from the Valentine Hufnagle and many people that still live here, Scribners, goes way back,” Chris noted.
“Chris and Krista are both very deserving of the award,” said Debbie Nisonger. “They display the qualities of this award of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. They come from generations of service to our country starting in the American Revolutionary War.”
Chris’s wife, Peggy, connected the father and daughter through FaceTime on her cell phone, allowing the duo to share the surprise in real-time at breakfast for guests at the Brethren Retirement Community.
