NEW MADISON – Over the years, our department has welcomed many new members. Once approved, each member is assigned a unit number. However, there has always been one number that remained untouched – Unit 1.
Each time we revisit our roster, Unit 1 is available, yet never reassigned. That’s because it represents something far greater than just a number. It carries decades of wisdom, knowledge, stories, and deep meaning within our department.
Unit 1 was originally assigned to Chas Godsey, a name well known to anyone around New Madison.
Today, we had the true honor of welcoming Chas and his family as we officially and permanently assigned Unit 1 to him, recognizing his incredible 54+ years of dedicated service to the New Madison Volunteer Fire Department.
Chas not only served his community with pride but also mentored countless firefighters, passing down his knowledge and shaping generations within our department.
Unit 1 will forever stand as a symbol of his legacy!
