CareFlight responds to Preble County crash, Darke County man seriously injured

PREBLE COUNTY – CareFlight responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash that occurred in the 4000 block of US 127, north of Eaton. The crash occurred at approximately 9:13 on Thursday morning.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2017 Dodge Ram pick-up was traveling northbound, driven by a 46-year-old Darke County man. According to witnesses, his truck traveled left of center and struck a southbound 2025 Freightliner semi tractor /trailer, driven by a 58-year-old Lima man.

Fire and EMS units worked for approximately an hour to extricate the driver of the pick-up truck. He was transported by ambulance to the Kettering Preble ER helipad where
he was transferred to CareFlight and airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi was transported by ambulance to Reid Hospital in Richmond with non-life-threatening injuries. The road remained closed for several hours while deputies conducted their investigation.

Eaton Fire and EMS, North Central EMS and West Manchester Fire responded to the scene. ODOT assisted with road closures. Names of the drivers are pending, so deputies can locate family members.

The crash remains under investigation.
