Bradford Softball on five game win streak

BRADFORD – The Lady Railroaders softball team picked up a big 13-2 win over Fairborn on Saturday by playing fast on offense, solid on defense and good pitching.

Bradford softball started the season with big wins over Jackson Center (12-6) and Coldwater (17-9) …  then they dropped their next four games against quality opponents: Vandalia Butler, Milton Union, Fort Recovery and Tecumseh.

Since then, they have gone on a five-game win streak with wins over Newton (10-5), Union City (12-2), National Trail 13-0, New Bremen (9-6) and Fairborn.

The Skyhawks would strike first in the game plating two runs in the first inning.  Bradford got half of that back in the bottom half of inning.

Starting pitcher Casey Bolen would settle in for the next 5 innings to pick up the win for the Roaders.  She threw five innings gave up 6 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Bolen’s team brought the lumber in the second, third and fourth innings plating 12 more runs to build a 13-2 lead and eventual run rule win over Fairborn.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning freshman Hayven Evans drove in two runs on a double.

In the 3rd Kendall Weldy singled to center to score a run.

In the 4th inning Lily Canan and Vivian Harleman both doubled each with two rbi’s and Casey Bolen’ single sent home the 5th and final run of the game.

Lily Canan led the way at the plate going 3-for-3 including a triple and double with two rbi’s and a scored three runs.

Vivien Harleman was 2-for-3 with a double, had three rbi’s and scored twice.

Lexi Clark (triple, 3 runs) and Chloe Hocker (double) each went 2-for-3 and had an RBI.

Hayven Evans was 1-for-3 (double) with a rbi and run scored.

Casey Bolen was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Kasey Weldy was 1-for-2 with an RBI and 3 runs.

Bradford coach Shon Schaffer talked about the win over Fairborn and the current five game win streak by the Lady Railroaders.

“I thought the girls played really fast. It was good to see the speed of play. In order to beat good teams, you got to play fast. And the girls are getting there, and they’re turning the corner,’ Schaffer commented.

“It is very nice, (five game win streak) I don’t put a lot of emphasis on how many wins we have in a row, but we are playing much better and with more confidence. It’s good to see smiles and good feelings all around,” Schaffer concluded.

Bradford improves to 6-4 overall and is 2-0 in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference.  They will host backyard rival Covington on Monday and then a tough game with league foe Tri-County North on Tuesday.
