GREENVILLE – The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Fort GreeneVille Chapter recently surprised Gaylen Blosser with the national DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal during the monthly Darke County Veterans Services Commission Meeting on June 17.
Needless to say, Blosser was shocked to learn he was recognized by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
“It is my honor and privilege to receive the DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal,” Blosser said. “It is certainly a very humbling experience for me, one that caught me off guard.”
The DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal recognizes worthy citizens for their extraordinary service in the defense, promotion, and/or preservation of our American heritage of freedom.
The DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal is presented to an individual who has demonstrated honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism. The individual has contributed to the defense, security or freedom of the community, state or nation in an exceptional manner.
Blosser has shown extraordinary lifetime service in the defense, promotion, and preservation of our American heritage of freedom. He devoted two years of service to our Country as a US Army Combat Infantry Soldier and Radio Communication Operator, including serving in Vietnam. He was honored with medals that include the Bronze Star / Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Expert Badge with Rifle and M-60 Machine Gun Bar, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
Blosser devotes himself to the Darke County Veterans Honor Guard, local Veterans’ needs, and serves as a Commissioner of the Darke County Veterans Services and is a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 140 Honor Guard and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7262.
He speaks with high school students each year about the Vietnam War and our military today, and participates in local Wreaths Across America events.
Blosser also devotes his time to his community as a photographer and local reporter. He is also a supporter of historical preservation and history.
“Gaylen is more than worthy of the DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal. His valor during his military service continues to be displayed throughout his adult life with his love for his country and community,” commented DAR Regent Debbie Nisonger.
