Ava Gosnell and her horse

Ava Gosnell is an Ansonia high school freshman in the Buckeye Buckaroos 4-H club.

Starting as a Cloverbud, she has been showing horses for seven years.

Ava brought two horses to the fair, but Sammy is her favorite to show.

“Sammy is my favorite personally because I’ve been showing him longer,” said Ava. “He’s my horse.”

Ava recently won the Herman Spille Youth Award. She earned this by scoring the highest in the Open Show High Point.

She and her mom also won first place in the Horsemanship Generation Gap Class.

Ava really enjoys showing her horses at the fair. She shared what she thought someone who has never shown horses should know about it.

“It’s really fun,” Ava said. “I know it might sound difficult at first because they are like a really big horse, and it might be hard to deal with, but it’s really fun in the end.”

Congratulations Ava! We wish you the best of luck with your horses!
