PLEASANT HILL – The Arcanum Lady Trojans stretched their winning streak to six straight games Tuesday, defeating the Russia Lady Raiders 4-2 in a non-conference varsity softball matchup played at Newton High School.
Behind another strong outing from pitcher Cam Garbig and a steady offensive attack, Arcanum improved its momentum with a complete team performance.
“We hit the ball well all the way through,” said Arcanum coach Mike Morris. “We just came out and hit the ball, and Cam pitched another great game.”

Playing as the home team, Arcanum escaped early trouble in the top of the first after Russia drew a leadoff walk. Garbig settled in quickly, recording a strikeout and inducing two infield popups to keep the Lady Raiders off the scoreboard.
The Lady Trojans answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Jordyn Garbig lined a two-out double to center field, and Cam Garbig followed with an RBI single to center to give Arcanum a 1-0 lead after one inning.

Arcanum added to its advantage in the fourth inning when Rees Hoffman led off with an infield single and later came around to score on a Russia passed ball, pushing the lead to 2-0.
Russia responded in the top of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 2-1 on a single followed by a run-scoring double.
“Defensively, we were pretty sound,” Morris said. “Russia played well also.”
The Lady Trojans answered right back in the bottom of the fifth. Jordyn Garbig delivered her second double of the game, and Cam Garbig drove in another run with an RBI single to center. Later in the inning, Meredith Laux added a run-scoring single to right field to extend the lead to 4-1.

Russia threatened again in the sixth, opening with a double and later scoring on an RBI single to center, trimming the Arcanum lead to 4-2. But that would be as close as the Lady Raiders would get, as Garbig closed the door to seal the win.
Cam Garbig earned the complete-game victory, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out six and walking two.

Arcanum collected 12 hits in the game, with Cam Garbig leading the way offensively from the cleanup spot, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Rees Hoffman, Jordyn Garbig, and Ella Flatter each added two hits in the balanced attack.
“I was happy with the game,” Morris said. “It was a good team win. We came out firing on all cylinders — our sixth straight win.”
