“We got some good at-bats, we had a lot of long at-bats, and we put the ball in play,” said Arcanum coach Mike Morris. “Hopefully, we’re going to start hitting the ball better and get this thing rolling.”

The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with Grace Fry leading off with a walk, moving to second on a Cam Garbig sacrifice, and scoring the game’s first run with a double off the bat of Jordyn Garbig. Matty Noe drove in run No. 2, legging out a throw to first for the second run of the inning.

Brookville battled back to even the score at 2-2 in the top of the second and plated two runs in the top of the fourth to grab a 4-2 lead with the Lady Trojans coming to the plate in the bottom of the inning.

Ella Flatter led off the Lady Trojans’ half of the fourth with a single and came around to score on a 6-to-3 Kenzie Byrne grounder, sending the game to the fifth with Brookville holding a 4-3 advantage.

Neither team could dent the plate in the sixth inning, and Brookville stranded a one-out single at the top of the seventh, bringing the Lady Trojans to the plate at the bottom of the seventh.

Grace Fry set the stage for the Lady Trojans with a one-out single, swiped second and raced to third on a Cam Garbig 2-strike sacrifice bunt and came around to score the winning run on the Jordyn Garbig game-winning walk-off hit to right.

“That’s why she is batting third,” Morris said of his sophomore shortstop Jordyn Garbig. “She batted third as a freshman last year. When the game was on the line last year that is who I wanted up, that’s who I thought she has just enough confidence and she is cocky enough she is going to take care of it. When she came up, I thought they were going to walk her and set up a force out, and they didn’t, and she came through and battled.”

Arcanum sophomore Cam Garbig went the distance on the mound to earn the win, and sophomore Jordyn Garbig drove a two-strike two-out single over the Devils’ right fielder, giving the Lady Trojans the early season walk-off win.

“We’re going to throw strikes, teams are going to hit the ball, and we have to play defense behind them,” Morris stated. “Hopefully, we get that cleaned up a little bit.”

Cam Garbig pitched seven solid innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two.

Jordyn Garbig led Arcanum at the plate, going 2-4, including a double, 2 RBI, and a run scored. Senior Kenzie Byrne was 2-3 with an RBI; Grace Fry went 1-3 and 2 runs; Ella Flatter was 1-3 with a run; Marli Morris an RBI; and Ella Warren a run scored.
