ARCANUM – The Arcanum Lady Trojans earned a 15-0 Senior Night win over the Franklin Monroe Lady Jets in WOAC action, playing error-free ball while banging out 17 hits in four innings at the plate, giving Arcanum a six-game win streak, including five straight shutouts.

“Our defense is really stepping up right now,” said Arcanum coach Mike Morris. “We’re playing the best ball we’ve played all year, and hopefully we can keep this going into the tournament soon.”

Arcanum honored two seniors: No. 00 first baseman, power-hitting Kenzie Byrne, and No. 8 right fielder Marli Morris.

“We’re going to miss them,” said Coach Morris. “Been here all four years, Kenzie is a three-year starter, Marli is a two starter. First and right are the toughest positions for me to teach. They learned it quickly and do a great job. They are going to be very successful after they graduate. Kenzie is going to go on and play volleyball and softball, and she’ll probably dominate there too.”

The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 15-0 lead after three innings of play, scoring three in the first, including a towering home run off the bat of Kenzie Byrne.

Arcanum tacked on five in the second, and seven runs in the third inning to improve to 15-6 (8-1) on the 2025 season.

Arcanum sophomore Cam Garbig picked up the win, pitching 3.0 of shutout ball, allowing 2 hits, no walks while striking out four. Freshman Brynn Byers pitched two no-hit innings in relief, allowing 3 walks and striking out one.

Jordyn Garbig and Kenzie Byrne led the Lady Trojans at the plate. Sophomore J. Garbig went 4-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Byrne was 3-4, including a double and a home run, 4 RBIs, and 3 runs scored.

Matty Noe was 2-4, including a double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs; Cam Garbig went 2-2, including a triple, 1 RBI, 1 run; freshman Ella Warren was 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 run. Ella Flatter 1-3, 2 RBIs, 1 run; Grace Fry, 1-2, a walk, 1 RBI, 2 runs; Claire Hein 1-3, 2 RBIs; Marli Morris 1-2, 1 RBI,1 run.

“She’s a strong girl,” Morris said of Byrne. “I’ve seen her put them over the scoreboard before. If you miss on her, she’s going to make you pay. She’s having a great season, playing great defense at first, and Marli is playing great defense in right and getting her bunts down and getting RBIs. Those things are starting to come together at the right time for us.”

“We’re trying to learn from each other, but also these teams that are really good and fundamentally sound,” said Franklin Monroe coach Jon Spencer. “What we always talk about … attitude, effort, and keep trying, don’t give up, be aggressive,e and swing the bat. If we make mistakes, it’s fine, it’s part of the game, it’s part of learning, and that is what the message has been all year … have fun with it and keep trying.”
