ARCANUM – The Arcanum Trojans shut out the Franklin Monroe Jets 10-0 in six innings of play on Senior Night in Arcanum.

Arcanum honored two seniors before the game: No. 19 Seth Fearon and No. 28 Cohen Protzman.

“Good leadership from those guys,” Coach Baker said of his seniors. “They work extremely hard, they are going to be very successful in life. Cohen is a positive kid and works hard. Seth always has a smile on his face and puts the team first. Very happy for the seniors.”

The neighboring teams played scoreless through the opening two innings, with the Jets going down in order in the top of the third with Reagan Christ striking out the side.

Arcanum broke the game open with a six-run third with the big hits a Christ double, an RBI Ethan Kearney double, and a Jace Mote RBI single to right to lead 6-0 after three complete.

“We got all six runs with two outs, which is huge,” Coach Baker said. “I thought Filbrun did a nice job the first couple of innings on us. It was the second time through the lineup. That’s tough to do, score six runs with two outs.”

“We have to stop those innings that get away from us,” said FM coach Tyler Zimmerman. “Gave up six tonight, seven against Milton-Union. “Arcanum played well tonight, they had good stuff, and we didn’t bring it back at them.”

Franklin Monroe managed back-to-back one-out fourth-inning singles of the bats of Brandt Filbrun and Matthew Hurley, only to be stranded with a strikeout and a caught stealing. Arcanum stranded a leadoff Lucas Miller single to open the bottom of the fourth, sending the game to the fifth with the score remaining at 6-0.

The Jets went down swinging 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth with Christ striking out the side while Arcanum took advantage of a Fearon leadoff walk, a Mote single, and an RBI single to center off the bat of Christ and a 7-0 Trojans lead.

“It’s been three years of him coming up and dealing against us,” Coach Zimmerman said of Christ. “They played really good defense behind him, too, which helps. A well-rounded team offensively, all across the board. They played well, and we didn’t have our ‘A’ game today. One bad inning has been killing us here lately, and mistakes snowball together and get away from us.”

Franklin Monroe managed their third hit of the night, a two-out Braden Gilbert single left stranded bringing Arcanum to the plate to bring the curtain down on the night with three runs in the bottom of the sixth with a MJ Macy leadoff walk, a Bryce Kramer single, a Robby Denniston walk, a run-scoring bases loaded walk to Mote and a Christ walk-off two-out two-run double to left giving the Trojans a run rule senior night victory.

Christ went the distance on the mound for the Trojans, pitching 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing three hits, no walks, while striking out 13.

“Reagan Christ, very nice job, stayed ahead of the hitters,” Baker noted. “Did a good job and played good defense behind him.”

Christ paced the Trojans at the plate, going 4-5 with 3 RBI and a run. Mote was 2-3 with a walk, and two RBI; Ethan Kearney went 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 run; Bryce Kramer 1-2, a walk, 2 runs; Luke Stephens 1-3, 1 run; Lucas Miller 1-3; Seth Fearon two walks, a HBP, two runs; MJ Macy and Robby Denniston one walk, one run each.

Braden Gilbert, Filbrun, and Hurley each accounted for a Franklin Monroe hit.
