LEWISBURG – The Arcanum Lady Trojans earned a share of the WOAC Title with a solid 65-31 conference win over the Tri-County North Lady Panthers, the program’s first conference title since 1999.
“Winning a league title is very deserving for this group of girls,” said veteran Arcanum coach Abbey Moore. “’BE TOUGH’ has been our motto this year, and toughness has gotten us to where we are.”
The Lady Trojans grabbed an early lead, taking the opening quarter 19-10, led by seven points from Alexis Gibbins, six from Faith Wooten, and four from Caroline Long.
Arcanum extended its first-half lead with a double-digit 16-6 second-quarter point,s sending the game to the break with the Lady Trojans up 35-16.
Period No. 3 proved to be back-to-back Arcanum double-digit quarters, taking the period 18-7, giving the ladies from Darke County a 53-23 lead with one quarter to play.
Arcanum secured the WOAC Title with a 12-8 fourth quarter, giving the Lady Trojans a convincing 34-point victory.
Alexis Gibbons led Arcanum and all scorers with a game-high 28 points, including four 3-pointers.
“I feel very blessed to be surrounded by an amazing coaching staff and a group of girls that have made this season a memorable one,” Coach Moore stated. “So many big plays and moments of overcoming adversity both on and off the court that will forever have an impact on me. This team’s story is not over yet.”
The No. 3 seed Lady Trojans travel to Covington to take on the No. 10 seed Dayton Christian Lady Warriors in first-round OHSAA DVI tournament action on Saturday, February 15th, with an 11 a.m. start time.
