SPRINGFIELD – The Arcanum Lady Trojans, winner of the school’s first Lady Trojans district title since 1978, dropped a 54-24 OHSAA DV regional tournament game to the Minster Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Wildcats took the opening period by a 12-4 score and extended their lead to 27-11 with a 14-7 second-quarter advantage.
Arcanum stepped up play on the third quarter defensive end of the court, holding the Lady Wildcats to 8 points while putting up 7 points for a 35-18 Minster lead with one period to play. Arcanum senior Alexis Gibbons notched her 1,000th career point on a drive to the bucket.

“We knew we had to do something to light a fire and something to get some momentum and we were able to,” Moore noted. “We were able to make some big shots and make plays and that started with putting them in those adverse situations like they did us.”
“Lex needed nine to get a thousand, and she got 10, so she’s at one thousand and one,” said Coach Moore. “I am happy for her to be able to accomplish that. She works hard, and she has a bright future at the next level. She’s been an awesome kid to be around these past four years, and I am really going to miss her.”Minster put the game away in the fourth, taking the final quarter 19-6 to advance to the regional finals.
“Unfortunately, when you don’t go more than six deep in those situations, we’re trying to handle the ball against pressure, and then you kind of run out of gas,” Moore said.
Arcanum seniors No. 3 Alexis Gibbons and No. 5 Brooke Anderson played their final Lady Trojans basketball game for the Orange and Black.

“They are two girls you don’t want to see go,” said Moore. “They come in every day and work hard and give it their all. They are great kids and I am really going to miss them.”
“Lex needed nine to get a thousand, and she got 10, so she’s at one thousand and one,” said Arcanum coach Abbey Moore. “I am happy for her to be able to accomplish that. She works hard and has a bright future at the next level. She’s been an awesome kid to be around these past four years, and I am really going to miss her.”

The Arcanum Lady Trojans finished the season as WOAC Co-Champions and OHSAA DV District Champions.
“These girls have accomplished quite a task this year,” said Moore. “You never want to see it end. A great group of girls. What they were able to accomplish is take this program to a new level, and we’re going to run with it. The standard has been set, and it’s because of these girls and what they put into it.”

The Arcanum student section and fans were a class act, cheering with clean language and dignity throughout the game. Arcanum parents, school administration, teachers, coaches, and students should be commended for their display of quality school spirit. Congratulations, Arcanum. Well done on a job.
