GREENVILLE – The Arcanum Trojans opened its regular season on the road defeating the Greenville Green Wave 68-33 in a non-conference matchup.

“They are great kids,” said first-year Arcanum head coach Kevin Brockman. “I didn’t know how deep we would be as far as how deep our bench would be. For some of those guys, it’s their first varsity action and I’m not sure you would have known it because they stepped up, they hit big shots and we’ll see if we can carry this over to next week.”

“We’re finding out real quick we had guys playing positions they weren’t normally playing,” said Greenville coach, Matt Hamilton. “We have a lot of questions to answer and basically the only thing we can do is get back to work, shake it off, learn from it, and keep working.”
Arcanum took a 21-8 first-quarter lead with sophomore guard Landon Flatter’s six points including 4-4 at the free throw line and five Regan Christ points including a 3-pointer.

The Trojans matched its first quarter 21 points in period No. 2 led by sophomores Charlie Weiss and Matthew McCans five points each, both hitting for a trey while the Arcanum defense was holding the Wave to seven points to lead 42-15 at the break.
“A lot of that is the sophomore class,” Brackman, last year’s Arcanum JV coach said of his Trojans defensive play. “A lot of that I’m comfortable with because those are the guys I had last year with me – those are the guys that won 16 JV games. They understand my language, I understand their needs and what they’re good at so having the ability to do that will help us.”
Regan Christ paced the Trojans with seven third-quarter points including his third triple of the night to a 16-8 third-quarter score sending the game to the final quarter of play with Arcanum holding a secure 58-23 advantage and a running clock.

The teams played to a 10-10 fourth-quarter score giving the visiting Arcanum Trojans first-year head coach Kevin Brackman his first head varsity coaching win.
“I’m just so proud of them,” said Coach Brackman. “They are a great group of kids and they spend a lot of time in the gym. We open up the gym every morning at 6-6:15 a.m. I sit in a chair in the corner and those guys shoot for an hour and 20 minutes and it’s not Regan, it’s not Brady – there’s 24 of them, it’s each kid in our program.”

“Two teams in a row (opening 50-20 loss to Tippecanoe) where you look at and you know they’re doing the preparation in the offseason to put themselves in these positions that our guys need to learn to do,” Hamilton stated.
Arcanum also won the freshmen and junior varsity games before the varsity contest.
“For us to come over here and get three wins it’s good for us to start our season,” Coach Brackman concluded.
Trojans sophomore Regan Christ led Arcanum and all scorers with a game-high 15 points while the Trojans sophomore class was totaling 43 points.
With the win Arcanum stands at 1-0 on the season and Greenville falls to 0-2.
