ARCANUM – The Arcanum Trojans earned a non-conference 71-37 home win over the visiting Greenville Green Wave.
“It felt good to be back in front of the home crowd, a very packed home crowd,” said Arcanum coach Kevin Brackman. Greenville traveled well so it was good to get the ball rolling in our home gym.”

Arcanum wasted little time jumping out to an early 7-0 lead in under three minutes of play and extending its lead to 11-2 midway through the first before taking the opening quarter by an 18-6 score led by seven Landon Flatter points, including his first of five 3-pointers on the night.
Flatter continued to be hot from beyond the arc in second-quarter play, canning three triples and a free throw to lead Arcanum with ten points in the period. The team took the period 19-10, and the teams went to the break with the Trojans owning a commanding 37-15 advantage.
Greenville battled back in the third quarter, with senior Drew Hamilton accounting for 10 of the Wave’s 17 points only to have Arcanum’s Flatter add 11 points to the board, with the Trojans taking the period 18-17 to lead 55-32 with one period to play and Flatter’s night done in the scoring column.

Arcanum closed out the night, taking the fourth quarter 16-5, giving the Trojans their first win of the new season after a four-point season-opening road loss to Bethel.
“I want to be more aggressive,” said Greenville coach Matt Hamilton. “We have to put the ball in the hole. We can’t give up 60 or 70 points. Momentum is a big deal in basketball, and we can’t go multiple possessions without scoring. It’s going to wear on anybody so we have to find guys that can put it in the hole.”

Landon Flatter led Arcanum and all scorers with a game-high 23 points, including five triples, all coming in the first three quarters. Matthew McCans scored 11 Arcanum points, and Cameron Ball added 10 Trojans points.

“Over the last two nights, Landon has been a huge difference maker for us,” Coach Brackman stated. “He has extended his game; he can knock down shots, which makes him a threat. All last year, he was a drive-first kind of guy, and now he’s added the perimeter to his game, which makes him a force.”
“He has come to realize the role we have put him in and he has garnered the respect of the sophomores and junior group around him and not only used that to elevate his game but theirs. We have guys that can pour it in but he’s put himself in a position to be like; I want to be one of those guys too. He has multi-levels to his game.”

“Matthew McCans was a guy that had a big night last night at Bethel and Cameron Ball was able to throw in a double-double there,” Brackman continued. “Cameron cleans up the glass so well, he has a nose for the ball, he rebounds with two hands and he plays so hard, he’s got springs for legs and is going to be a big force for us. Those are three guys we are going to lean on.”
