“We have been so big on executing our offense,” said Arcanum coach Kevin Brackman. “This is a group that we returned 12 points from last year’s team, so we’re trying to find our identity, focusing on what we do well, and execute that.”

Both teams struggled on the offensive end of the court in the opening period with Arcanum coming out on top 8-3 after one compete.

The Trojans drained four third-quarter 3-pointers while holding Ansonia to five points, giving Arcanum a healthy 41-10 lead with one period to play.

Ansonia more than doubled its first three-quarter output in the fourth, putting 12 points on the board, while Arcanum had its largest quarter of the night, logging 22 fourth-quarter points to earn the conference win.

“Our group, it’s any given night, somebody can go off,” Brackman stated. “Landon Flatter was able to put the ball in the hole consistently the last two games. We have had other guys step up so that’s the beauty in this group. Sometimes our offense goes a little bit stagnant because they share the ball too much.”

“We knew we could lock them up (defensively),” said McCans. “Our offense got going and started moving the ball, taking care of the ball, not turning it over, and we took it from there.”

Neither team had a productive night at the free-throw line. Arcanum made 10-21 for 47.6 percent, and Ansonia shot 3-9 for 33.3 percent.

“We need to shoot free throws,” Brackman said. “It was not a good number.”
