BROOKVILLE – The Arcanum Lady Trojans battled through a week of sickness to easily defeat the Springfield Northeastern Lady Jets in OHSAA DIII second-round volleyball tournament action.
“We’ve been battling a lot of sickness this week so we were a little nervous stepping on the court,” said Arcanum coach, Jacie Holman. “We had a light practice yesterday, we had no practice on Thursday so we were kind of nervous of what we were going to see when we stepped on the court. Overall it was pretty happy with my girls. They came out strong and gave a good fight.”
The Lady Trojans opened with a 25-8 lopsided first-set win and went to cruise control taking set No. 2 by a 25-14 count.
“That is something we talked about for a long time in the locker room – just settling and playing with the teams that we should be out here taking big leads on and not letting them see that they have a chance,” Coach Holman stated. “I told my girls we deserve that four seed but right now I don’t necessarily believe we are showing it.”
Arcanum closed out the day with a straight-set victory with a 25-12 third-set win to advance in tournament play.
The No. 4 seed Lady Trojans take on the No. 5 seed Versailles Lady Tigers, on Tuesday, October 24 at Brookville High School with a 6 p.m. start time.
