ANSONIA – Matthew Lee, the son of Steve and Stacey Lee signed his letter of intent to run Cross Country and Track for NCAA DI Wright State University, a member of the Horizon League while furthering his education.

“I already have a connection with Wright State due to my mom and Coach Allen Newbauer (Ansonia track team distance coach and assistant cross-country coach) both going there,” said Lee. “Wright State is building a good program and is in a very competitive region, which I am excited about and look forward to being a part of. I also look forward to competing for the Horizon League Championships.”

Lee is a member of the Ansonia Tigers Cross Country team and the Track and Field program where he has excelled. In cross country he received WOAC First Team honors for three years, was named WOAC Cross Country runner of the year in each of the past two years, qualified for state in each the past two seasons, and is the current school record holder with a time of 16:27.77.

In Track, Lee was a District Champion in the 1600m run, was a state qualifier in the 1600m run this past spring, and holds the school record in both the 3200m run and the 1600m run.

Lee hold a 3.2 GBA and has participated in Spanish Club, Quiz Bowl, Buckeye Boys State, and Healthy Kids.

The Ansonia senior has lofty goals in his future when he takes his running skills to Wright State University.

“I want to decrease all of my times by a significant amount,” Lee stated. “I ultimately want to break Wright States’ 1500m record.”
