ANSONIA – The Ansonia Tigers rushed for 489 yards in defeating the visiting Bradford Railroaders in WOAC varsity football action.

Ansonia got on the board early and often, scoring, taking an early 6-0 lead on the third play of the game. Lander Shives scampered 47 yards for a Tigers touchdown, and with a Jacob Schmitmeyer two-point conversion run, Ansonia owned an 8-0 lead with 10:59 on the first quarter clock.

Bradford answered with an Owen Canan to Rawlie Wirrig touchdown pass. With the PAT kick deflected, the score stood at 8-6 with 8:53 in the opening period.

Zane Henderson scored a TD at 7:08 in the first and carried the two-point conversion run for a 16-6 first-quarter score.

Layne Bowman scored a 19-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter, bringing the Tigers’ score to 22-6. However, the conversion run came up short.

Zane Henerson scored on a one-yard run at 6:23 in the second, giving Ansonia a 28-6 lead. Henerson made good on the two-point conversion run for a 30-6 Ansonia advantage.

Bradford answered with a Canan to Raiden Wombold 40-yard touchdown pass at 5:19 in the second, cutting the Ansonia’s lead to 30-12 with the conversion run stopped by the Tigers.

Zane Henderson ran for a three-yard Ansonia touchdown at 2:08 in the second period, and with a Nate Good two-point conversion run, the Tigers extended their first-half lead to 38-12, sending the teams to the break.

With the game in hand, Ansonia would tack on eight third-quarter points and close out the night with 12 fourth-quarter points while keeping the Railroaders scoreless in second-half play for a 60-12 conference win.
